Dracula

2019

Logo Design

In June 2019, I was tasked with creating a logo for Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' adaptation of Dracula, which was to be broadcast as BBC One's flagship New Year's drama and subsequently on Netflix. The story of Dracula has an incredibly rich visual history to draw inspiration from, particularly in its literary form.
For the logo design, I explored vintage horror book covers and intricate 'gothic' typography. Since the show was intended to be dark and feature a surprising twist, I aimed to create a design that would reflect the contemporary nature of this adaptation while still paying homage to Dracula's rich tradition in horror and literature.
The final logo design was based on a range of typefaces cut by John F. Cumming in the late 1800s. The ornamental 'teeth' terminals in the design are a subtle reference to the titular character.
